Poetry of Space

Poetic.  Where indoor blends with outdoor, modernity marries tradition, and details are strung into a symphony of memorable moments.  More than just a villa, Umah Majegau is poetry expressed through the language of space.

Centered in Pererenan, Bali’s budding-place-to-be, Umah Majegau is nestled between the rumbling ocean, the island’s newest restaurants and chicest cafes, and the vibrant sights and sounds of Balinese tradition. The Villa is tucked deep within the Banjar (Balinese Village) — where village ends and nature begins, interrupted only by the gentle murmurs of a meandering stream.  With verdant views of endless rice terraces and nature’s whispers soothing the soul, Umah Majegau is poetry in paradise.

Brand Philosophy

Umah connotes “humble home” in Balinese, whilst Majegau (Dysoxylum Densiflorum) is the Balinese name of a tree endemic to the island.  The Majegau holds deep spiritual, cultural and ecological significance.  Its sacred wood is used to construct select temples of significance, and its fragrant bark has been burned in prayers and ceremonies long before incense sticks were introduced.  This medicinal tree, a symbol of purity and protection, is planted near temples and sacred sites to ward off negative energy.

Now endangered, Umah Majegau honors the significance of the Majegau both by namesake and by preserving 3 Majegau trees on the property, one by the entrance, and two in the inner courtyard.

Design Philosophy

Umah Majegau was guided by four design principles:  (1) respecting and designing with nature; (2) blending indoor and outdoor spaces; (3) honoring local materials and craftsmanship; (4) balancing traditional forms with modern comforts and aesthetics.

The villa complements rather than competes with its natural surroundings.  It was designed to melt into the original land contour, gently sloping down into the river and mirroring the rice fields across.  All trees were preserved and generous garden spaces were added.  The result is a symphony of poetic spaces filled with gentle breezes and natural light.  As a final touch, modern furniture is infused with unique antiques that were carefully sourced from Java and Bali.
